Cloete said an offer had been made to a potential replacement with an announcement expected shortly.
"Until the appointment is made I'll still be looking after the New Zealand business," he said from his new Sydney location.
The researcher still maintains four people on the ground in New Zealand at its Auckland office.
Cloete joined Morningstar NZ in 2005 after a long career in the South African financial services industry.
