The financier pleaded guilty to running an enormous Ponzi scheme worth an estimated $17.5 billion in March of 2009 and sentenced to 150 years in jail.
The former chairman of the NASDAQ died earlier this week of natural causes at the age of 82.
Bernard Lawrence Madoff admitted to stealing billions of dollars from thousands of clients over a period of between 20 and 30 years.
He eventually confessed to his crimes, saying to investigators that his business, Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities, was “all just one big lie”.
