The Block is like a lot of property investments: from the outside it looks like a great way to make some easy money with a lick of paint and some well-chosen ornaments.
But below the surface there is a major amount of work and money involved.
“This is a permanent four-dwelling subdivision and property development, with all the complications that entails,” said Wolfkamp (dubbed “The Wolf” by contestants).
From the broken husks placed on the sites for the show, The Block’s teams and their tradies have to create beautiful, high-spec homes that are both character-filled and luxurious.
The contestants have seven days to work renovation magic on each room.
But seven days per room is a crazy way to do a renovation whatever your skill level: If you learn one lesson from The Block, it should be to avoid the insane deadlines, Wolfkamp said.
“Give yourself plenty of time – we don’t!”
