Five new hires at QuayStreet

Thomas Pughe joins QuayStreet as Senior Fixed Interest Analyst
Friday 25th of September 2026

QuayStreet has appointed two independent directors and added five new hires across investment and distribution.

QuayStreet has appointed Mike Caird as Independent Non-Executive Chair and Jen Bunbury as Independent Non-Executive Director, establishing a majority-independent board effective 25 September 2026.

The appointments follow QuayStreet's externalisation from Smart (part of the NZX Group) earlier this year into an independent, staff-owned investment management firm.

Caird brings more than 40 years of experience across capital markets, investment banking, corporate finance and governance. He previously served as director of QuayStreet Asset Management between 2014 and 2023, and as director of Craigs Investment Partners for 19 years, following senior roles at ABN AMRO and Brierley Investments.

Bunbury has more than 20 years of experience across corporate finance, investment banking, investor relations and governance in New Zealand and internationally. She currently serves as Non-Executive Director of My Food Bag and Chief Investment Officer of the Stewart Family Investment Office, and is a member of the NZX Listing Subcommittee.

She previously served as Chief Financial Officer of Tourism Holdings Limited, was a director in investment banking at Craigs Investment Partners / Deutsche Craigs, and held corporate finance and investor relations roles in London with HSBC and BHP Billiton.

QuayStreet has also expanded its investment team with three senior hires. Thomas Pughe joins as Senior Fixed Interest Analyst, with international macro, interest rate, foreign exchange and credit market experience from DRW, GHCO and BNP Paribas.

Ryan Li joins as Senior Equity Analyst, bringing five years of Australasian equities research and valuation experience from ANZ Investments and Craigs Investment Partners.

Mareli de Lange joins as Senior Investment Analyst with nine years of public and private market experience, having held direct investment, asset allocation and New Zealand equities roles at the New Zealand Superannuation Fund and a research role at Craigs Investment Partners.

QuayStreet has also welcomed back David Buell as Head of Client and Distribution, returning after two years at Fisher Funds to lead the firm's distribution and client service strategy.

Managing Director and Head of International Equities Stefan Stevanovic says the governance and investment team additions position QuayStreet well for its next phase of growth.

"QuayStreet is now entering an important and pivotal phase of growth. Establishing robust independent governance was crucial following our externalisation. Thomas, Ryan, and Mareli each bring deep analytical capability and diverse market experience that will further enhance our investment process. Coupled with David returning to lead our client and distribution strategy, we are now well positioned to continue delivering strong outcomes for our investors."

With $3 billion in funds under management, QuayStreet says it continues to generate strong growth underpinned by leading performance across key KiwiSaver risk categories and multiple time horizons.
