Ross Butler has been appointed as the general manager of Mortgage Link, which currently has 65 brokers operating from 36 offices around New Zealand. The Nelson-based company settles about 5,000 loans each year totalling $600 million.Butler has been a director of the Mortgage Link Group of companies since July 2002.
His appointment is part of a number of changes at Mortgage Link, both shareholding wise and structurally.
Former general manager Roger Poulter has stepped aside so he can concentrate on his related firms, Pacific Home Loans and Eagle Finance, and on the Mortgage Alliance, the aggregate group of Mortgage Link, Mortgage People (formerly Property Pack), Hughson Mortgages and Financial Group of New Zealand, and on other interests.
Butler’s appointment is temporary. While in the position he will be sorting out the job and systems with the aim of appointing a permanent replacement early in 2004.
The move is a first step towards other developments which are still under discussion, Poulter says.
Butler says he is “looking forward to making Mortgage Link the mortgage broker of choice for customers, and for professionals wishing to establish themselves as business people in the mortgage industry.
He is also “keen to be involved in the NZMBA, lifting educational, service and business standards within the industry.”
Butler is a director on a number of other boards including the Nelson Building Society, Nelson Bays Education Business Trust, and Merlot an executive search firm in the actuarial and financial services industries.
He has spent virtually all of his career in financial services in Australia, with assignments of various lengths in United States, United Kindom, India and Malaysia. His most recent Australian role was chairman of GIO Building Society, and executive director of GIO Financial Services.
