Asteron changes names and management
Asteron has changed its name to Asteron Life, reflecting its focus on core insurance business, and made some new appointments.

Mark Frecklington, previously Head of Distribution, has been appointed to the position of Executive Manager Intermediated Sales and Don Allerston has been confirmed as Executive Manager Marketing and Product.
Gail Saipani is the new Executive Manager Service Delivery, providing operational support to Asteron Life and its joint venture with the NZ Automobile Association, AA Life. Saipani has been with the company for 12 years and brings solid experience in all aspects of customer service including new business, contact centre and process improvement.
The critical part claims and underwriting play in reinforcing Asteron's brand strength has been recognised by creating a role at executive manager level focussed specifically on these areas. The company is currently completing an executive search in the market and internally to fill this role.
In addition these management changes there is a new director. Sir Eion Edgar has been appointed as an independent director. He is chairman of Forsyth Barr and previously served as a board member of the Reserve Bank, chairman of The New Zealand Stock Exchange and is a former director of Royal & Sun Alliance (Asteron’s previous parent). He is also a director of Vero, Martinborough Vineyard Estates and the Queenstown Resort College.
He joins existing board directors Geoff Ricketts, Geoff Summerhayes and David Carter.
