Advice adds at least 5% a year, but clients can’t see most of it
Russell Investments’ latest Value of an Adviser report finds behavioural coaching delivers the biggest share of advice value, yet it is the benefit clients are least likely to recognise.
Financial advisers in New Zealand added at least 5% a year in value for their clients over the past year, according to the sixth NZ edition of Russell Investments’ Value of an Adviser report. Much of that value is going unnoticed by the clients receiving it.
Behavioural coaching accounts for 3.7 percentage points of the estimate. Appropriate asset allocation adds another 1.3%. The report’s formula also includes choices and trade-offs, which it rates as “variable”, and expertise, which it calls “priceless”.
Russell Investments head of distribution for Australia and New Zealand Neil Rogan says some of the most valuable things advisers do are often the hardest for clients to see.
