NZX aims for 5% of KiwiSaver market in three-to-five years

NZX’s Smart funds management arm is aiming to capture 5% of the KiwiSaver market.

Acting chief executive Graham Law told analysts that he thinks that might take three-to-five years rather than one-to-three years but that Smart could accelerate growth if it sees a particular approach is working.

NZX currently has about $3.3 billion of KiwiSaver funds under management (FUM) while Morningstar put the total value of KiwiSaver at $147.7 billion at June 30, and 5% of that is about $7.39 billion, suggesting Smart will have to more than double its FUM to achieve this 5% aim.

NZX says both increasing member numbers as well as increasing contribution rates will help it achieve that aim.
