WSNZ & WiS Industry Breakfast
17 March 2016
Workplace Savings NZ & Women in Super are pleased to invite you to hear from Pablo Berrutti, Head of Responsible Investment Asia Pacific, First State Investments.
Environmental, Social and Governance: a Fiduciary Update
In mid-2013 Pablo presented on fiduciary duty and the growing need for trustees to consider ESG factors across investment strategy, member engagement, industry collaboration and policy advocacy. Since that time there have been a number of developments including reports from the UK Law Commission, UN PRI and leading law firms, changes to trustee guidance in the US, and the growth of the fossil fuel divestment movement.
Pablo will give a brief update on the momentum which has built since his last visit.
ESG, Performance and Big data
A series of studies released over the last two years have shown a strong link between ESG factors and improved operational and financial performance of companies. However, capturing this value remains challenging with limitations in data availability and quality. Pablo will discuss how improvements in technology and data quality are helping to breakdown these barriers and offer great opportunities for investors.
As part of this discussion Pablo will cover the practical challenges for investors in dealing with a desire to move to a lower carbon investment approach.
