Ross McEwan has announced he is quitting as head of AXA to take the helm at First NZ Securities, the new company created after a management buyout from Credit Suisse First Boston.
McEwan who is 44, will start with First NZ Securities on May 6 and will be a shareholder in the new company.
He has been with AXA for 16 years and during the last 18 months has overseen the integration of the Australian and New Zealand arms of AXA.
He believes it is now time for someone else to lead the company into its next phase.
The changes mean much of the administration processes are now led out of Australia, with New Zealand focused on the customer contact side.
The option of returning to Australia with AXA did not interest McEwan who regards Wellington as his home.
The change will allow him to use his executive skills to lead and grow the business at First NZ Securities while taking on a new challenge and learning more about the broking industry.
