The latest details on the FPIA conference

FPIA conference committee chairman Lyn McMorran gives an update on this year's event.

by Lyn McMorran

Happy New Year – I hope everyone enjoyed a break over the holiday season and that you are now back at work and looking forward to another highly successful year.

As part of this, of course, participation in Success Forum 2006 will be high on your list of priorities. It’s scary to think that we are now thinking in terms of “this year’s Conference” instead of “next year’s”. With less than five months to go until the big event, it will be here before we know it.

All the more reason then to register now. Earlybird registration closes on 28 February. Registration brochures will be mailed to every member of the association within the next few days but if you can’t wait for that (or, heaven forbid, you don’t belong) you can register on-line immediately at www.fpia.org.nz

The programme just keeps getting better and better – most of the business streams (including the newly-introduced Business Management stream) are now full and the line-up of presenters in each of them is very impressive.

Here’s a taste of what to expect in each stream:

Risk:

  • A new Advisers’ panel – Three advisers fairly new to the industry sharing their successes, the things they’ve learned, what’s worked for them and what hasn’t.
  • Terry Dixon (an independent consultant) talking about prospecting for new business.

Advanced Risk:

  • Chris Walker (AMP) on Understanding Whole of Life Policies.
  • Jeff Matthews (ACC) on What ACC Covers (and what they don’t).

Investment:

  • A panel of successful Advisers – Three well-respected financial planners sharing their secrets for retaining clients, growing their business.
  • Simon Bothaway (Brook Asset Management) on proposed tax changes in New Zealand and implications for investors and advisers.

Advanced Investment

  • Bernard Long (Goldridge) on issues relating to dealer groups and franchises
  • Paul Dyer (NZ Super Fund) on investing for the long term and lessons from the NZ Super Fund

Best Practice/Ethics

  • David Nottage (MC for this year’s Success Forum) sharing his expertise and skill in effective presentations.
  • Charlotte Ireland (AMP) on building your sales process to be compliant.

Business Management

  • Mike Vukcevic, Ernst & Young on valuing your business.
  • Stephen Parr & Philip Holland on succession planning

And this is just the tip of the iceberg – there’s plenty more fascinating and entertaining presentations you just can’t miss.

Another development for those of you who are studying is that we have arranged for an exam venue at the Conference for both Massey and Waikato exams – so don’t let exams prevent you from joining us. We will also have a quiet room for study and a place where you can go to access last minute help if required.

Once again we are receiving enormous and invaluable support from our business partners – this event would not be possible without you.

The FPIA Success Forum is being held at Sky City Convention Centre Auckland June 21-23 2006.
