Squirrel Mortgage Brokers has hired Venu Chawdrapu as a managing partner for the New Zealand Indian market.
John Bolton said it was likely a similar appointment to target the Chinese market would follow in short order.
He said Auckland’s Asian community needed a different approach.
“Whereas our existing team hardly leaves the office - business comes to us - the Asian market needs more networking and getting out and about in the community. Without hard data, Asian brokers are consistently at the top, or near the top, of leader boards within banks and broker aggregators.”
He said he would continue to bring in managing partners when there was an opportunity for them to manage a demographic or geographic segment of the business.
“When we first launched Squirrel I tried and failed getting into the Asian market. This time we have an established brand, established business and excellent people who are already in the market. It’s more about amplifying our presence than having to reinvent the wheel.”
