The collaboration will provide a workforce development programme to upskill financial capability providers, including budget advisers and financial mentors.
Fin-Ed Centre Director Dr Pushpa Wood says there is currently no formal development pathway for financial capability providers, despite a growing demand for training. The initiative aims to help providers deliver better support for individuals seeking to improve their financial resilience, manage debt, and save more effectively.
Booster Foundation chief executive Anika Speedy notes that the programme aligns with the Foundation’s mission to increase financial resilience across New Zealand. The training will be accredited through Massey University, offering practical modules delivered by experienced financial professionals.
Financial adviser Joshua Matthews, a Massey alumnus, says the programme equipped him to confidently enter the financial capability sector. North Harbour Budgeting Services financial mentor David Verry highlights the course’s value in refining existing skills and preparing for future challenges in the field.
The programme will run over the next three years, with additional support from the Booster Foundation in the form of sponsorship for research and consultancy.
