Asteron to offer Best Doctors

Asteron Life has announced it will partner with medical advice group Best Doctors.

Tuesday, February 12th 2013, 12:07PM

Best Doctors provides patients with advice on diagnosis and treatment plans.

Asteron Life managing director David Carter said the partnership between Asteron Life and Best Doctors would provide eligible customers access to some of the best medical minds in the world.

The programme will be made available to 25,000 Asteron Life customers whose policies pre-date 2004.  It will be offered at no extra cost and is scheduled to start in April.

Carter said: “We are delighted to be able to reward the loyalty of our customers with this unique and valued programme. We believe it will ensure peace of mind knowing they have received the best medical diagnosis and treatment, when they need it most.”

He said Best Doctors suggested an alternative diagnosis in one in six cases and an alternative treatment plan in one in every three cases they reviewed in New Zealand.

The programme will also be available to the spouse or children of eligible clients.

The service will be of particular value to patients with unusual or rare medical conditions.

The second opinion from Best Doctors will be confidential to the patient.

Best Doctors has a global database of more than 53,000 peer-nominated medical experts and serves 30 million members in 70 countries.

Sovereign also has an agreement with Best Doctors and a spokeswoman said that would continue for customers who had Sovereign TotalCareMax or the Absolute Health Specialist and Diagnostic Testing benefit added to their policy.
