He has been in the role for just over a month.
Over coming weeks, the PAA will be running a national roadshow at which Severn said he would get the chance to talk to advisers around the country.
But he said it would be a goal for the organisation to continue that engagement.
“We’re ramping up the regional operation to get better representation out to the regions. It’s one thing to send out an email saying what we want to say, it’s another to turn up.”
He said he planned to do things such as organise a trip to Invercargill and let advisers know he would be at a certain café for part of the day, to meet and hear what they wanted from the PAA.
“That’s the biggest value I and the PAA can offer, to be there. I’m not going to just sit on my chair in my office in Queen St all the time.”
Severn comes to the role from a position as chief operating officer at Smartpay, which designs payment solutions.
But he said it was not a hindrance that he was new to the industry.
“It’s a bonus that I’m new to the industry because I can ask questions that a veteran wouldn’t ask. I can ask because I genuinely want to learn. If it’s the wrong question I’ll still get an answer because I’m asking from an innocent point of view.”
He said he would offer a fresh pair of eyes and ears for the industry and the PAA.
