Mercer is undertaking a project to analyse investment risk and return under climate change scenarios. The study builds on work it did in 2011 and is being backed by investors with $1.5 trillion assets under management.
One of those is the NZ Superannuation Fund. “As a long-term, inter-generational investor, we need to understand the investment risks and opportunities associated with climate change,” Guardians of New Zealand Super Fund, chief executive Adrian Orr says. "This project will help us calibrate our investment strategies accordingly."
Mercer have joined close to 350 global institutional investors representing over $24 trillion in assets who have called on government leaders to provide stable, reliable and economically meaningful carbon pricing that helps redirect investment commensurate with the scale of the climate change challenge, as well as develop plans to phase out subsidies for fossil fuels.
