Consultancy Robert Walters has put out its latest salary survey, which shows there will be increasing competition for talented people in 2016.
That was expected to push salaries up in middle to senior-level finance, legal and sales roles.
The survey identified that the New Zealand employment market, particularly in the IT and banking sectors, would need to lift its appeal as it would be competing against large salary increases from countries such as Hong Kong and Britain, which were also experiencing skill shortages.
The top five professions in New Zealand for 2016 will be IT, risk and compliance finance specialists, lawyers, construction engineers and sales and marketing professionals, the survey said.
Robert Walters Auckland director James Dalrymple said: “We are cautiously optimistic for 2016, anticipating that recruitment levels will be broadly similar to those seen in 2015. However, we expect demand to be especially sensitive to wider economic conditions as New Zealand is increasingly exposed to global market forces. Competition will be particularly intense for experienced financial and commercial managers across all markets.”
