Asteron now under Vero leadership

Suncorp, which owns Asteron Life, has restructured the business resulting in a new role for Nadine Tereora.

Wednesday, March 2nd 2016, 5:08PM

Paul Smeaton, the current Vero chief executive, has assumed overall responsibility of both Vero and Asteron Life.  His focus will fall squarely on the challenge of unlocking further value between the Vero and Asteron Life brands and the service experience that must naturally follow, Tereora says in an email to advisers.

Tereora have taken  up the newly created role of Executive General Manager, Customer Experience, reporting directly to Smeaton as part of his senior leadership team.

"It’s an opportunity I’m enormously excited by – one that plays a central role building strategies and propositions that ensure both you and your clients remain at the heart of all we do in New Zealand. I will also maintain my position as managing director for Asteron Life, in the short term at least, as we work through the broader implications of the new structure."

"I firmly believe the new model will give us greater flexibility to respond to the evolving demands of New Zealand’s dynamic intermediated risk market. What’s more, it will enable us to examine our offer more holistically - helping us deliver not just what you and your clients need but what you value most."

"The team here remain 100% focussed on Asteron Life – including Mark Frecklington who will continue to lead our IFA distribution channel. Our people, our adviser partners and the clients you serve will remain central to our thinking."

Tereora says the changes are designed to encourage a stronger, more resilient life and general insurance business.
