McDougall, an ex-Navy captain, has just completed his first 100 days with the group.
“I’m not retiring but I’m definitely handing over the reins," Gannon says.
“After 32 years selling insurance and helping others to sell insurance means it’s time for a change of ideas, energy and people.”
“I’ve done everything I can, it’ s time for new blood,” he says.
Gannon says changes implemented this year are designed to make Newpark a “professional, high-end practice.”
It has increased its team by six including three business development managers, a technology manager, a new general manager and a national sales manager.
It has also brought together a professional board of directors of five people, who are some of the top people in New Zealand.
More than 100 advisers have been through the first phase of training for Level Five educational qualifications and it will end up with around 170 qualified advisers.
“The changes at Newpark are working and are starting to produce results thanks to the hard work of the team,” Gannon says.
“Dean’s first three months have been about learning the industry, meeting our members and providers and thinking about the best pathway forward. Dean is halfway through his Level 5 and has indicated a desire to keep learning and obtain higher qualifications.”
Gannon will remain a Director of Newpark and will concentrate on business acquisition, strategic alliances and business to business opportunities.
While there is a change in leadership there is no change to ownership of the group.
Gannon said he has had approaches in the past but thinks it would be hard to sell a group
