DIY under threat in bill proposal
The days of DIY building projects may be coming to an end as the government moves to restrict home handymen.

Buried in discussion documents proposing adjuncts to the Building Bill - designed to avoid another leaky buildings crisis - is a proposal that unqualified do-it-yourselfers have their work supervised and signed-off by a licensed builder if renovations cost over a certain amount.
The amount is yet to be decided but $10,000 is the starting figure.
