Report tips new housing growth
Up to 500 houses and apartments could be built near Saxton Field and neighbouring farmland as part of a south Nelson rezoning plan, according to a confidential Tasman District Council report.

This is in addition to about 1000 new lots planned along the Stoke foothills and in the Ngawhatu Valley.The as yet undeveloped "indicative" proposals were revealed at a recent closed-door meeting on the draft Richmond development study.
Details of the meeting have not been released, but briefing papers obtained by the Nelson Mail show that Tasman councillors discussed how to manage the town's growth, and a proposal to give "in principle" support to a south Nelson residential zone.
In the report, policy planner Rochelle Selby-Neal said the Nelson City Council might eventually rezone much of the area north of Champion Rd and south of Saxton Field to provide a mix of residential and rural-residential land.
