Predicted subsidence damage zones in the area on the eastern outskirts of Taupo have been revised in light of new information provided to Taupo District Council by geotechnical experts Sinclair Knight Mertz. ( SKM)Taupo Mayor Clayton Stent says inspections by SKM in Crown Rd, Invergarry Rd and Arthur Crescent, including level surveys, indicate that, although the total affected area has not changed significantly, the speed and extent of subsidence is greater than previously predicted.
Mr Stent says the news is 'unwelcome', but advice from SKM that there is sufficient evidence of a change in the intensity and timing of subsidence in the Crown Rd area means the council is legally bound to revise Land Information Memorandum. ( LIM)
"We have been advised that recent surveys have indicated that, in some instances, minor to moderate structural damage is more likely than was earlier thought."
