Hundreds wait for homes
Almost 600 people, a third of them high priority, are waiting for state homes in Auckland's east and bays.

Housing New Zealand says its Glen Innes Neighbourhood Unit had 571 people on its waiting list on April 30, 196 of them high priority.The Glen Innes unit manages 2445 owned and leased properties in Glendowie, Glen Innes, Kohimarama, Meadowbank, Mission Bay, Mt Wellington, Orakei, Panmure, Pt England, St Heliers and Tamaki.
The figures were released as Housing Minister Steve Maharey announced plans for an extra 500 state homes in Auckland over the next three years.
Mr Maharey says 162 will be built in central Auckland, which includes the area covered by the Glen Innes unit.
