Consultants told a meeting of about 50 property owners in the Coopers Beach coastal area the only evidence of underground movement - of between 80-100mm - was in the west of the affected 25ha area, near a highway bridge. The report said because the location was close to the Coopers Beach shoreline, the movement was more likely to have been caused by factors associated with coastal erosion.
The Far North District Council says now a survey grid has been established by geotechnical consultants, the area will continue to be monitored for any sign of underground slippage or movement.
