A public information day late last week, culminated in a meeting at the Mangatangi Hall where Transpower representatives were presented with a petition opposing the possible construction of new 400kV overhead lines in the area.Transpower says the new line is needed to meet the growing demand for power in the upper North Island and to ensure security of supply.
The information day was one of a series held to put forward details of two proposed routes, one of which affects property owners in the Mangatangi district.
Resident Mark Davies, whose property is directly affected should the eastern corridor route go ahead, says the physical and emotional effects as well as the effects on property values, would be massive.
