The Wanaka real estate market appeared to have bounced back from a three-month lull with a "substantial increase in activity" since January, Central Otago Real Estate Institute president Ross Rainsford said yesterday.

Last month a total of 24 Wanaka homes were sold – 21 houses with a median price of $460,000, two townhouses and a unit.Section sales totalled 18 for the month with a median price of $305,000, Mr Rainsford said.
These figures represented a "substantial increase" on the 11 homes that sold in January this year and 14 sections, he said.
"It seems that the couple of quiet months were no more than a hiccup and that the primary motivation to be in Wanaka is still there," Mr Rainsford said.
He said he was confident that the high dollar and rising interest rates were not having any impact on the Wanaka market – as yet.
Wanaka sections on the market still ranged from about $180,000 up to an upmarket Aubrey Rd lakefront plot for an asking price of $2 million.
