Inner-city development labelled slum
A double-storey residential centre planned for inner-city Hamilton has upset nearby residents who say it will cheapen the neighbourhood.

And they've got support from a city councillor who says the developer behind the project is creating a slum in the area.Bevan and Amanda Lockwood fear the value of their property in Horne St, near Waikato Hospital and across the road from the 20-room development, will plummet once the building goes up.
Mr Lockwood is furious the application was rubber-stamped by the city council because it complied with the district plan.
"It's sad the city council has a district plan that can't be changed quickly and allows this sort of development."
The residential centre is being developed by David Keiller through his company FTK Ltd. Mr Keiller did not respond to a Waikato Times message for comment.
