Residents share thoughts on Timaru
Timaru residents enjoy the district's low unemployment, cost of living and the upgrade of Caroline Bay, but despisepollution, vandalism, lack of tertiary education in the region and Stafford Street's empty shops.

The feedback is the result of the Timaru District Council's Talking Tomorrow project, which has been running for the last few months.The project, which cost about $15,000, was set up in response to a new requirement of the Local Government Act, which asked for "community outcomes".
Council strategic planning manager Mark Low said community outcomes were statements which expressed the community's immediate and long-term aspirations for the district.
The council received more than 900 responses through five public forums and a questionnaire.
