An apartment on the 35th floor of the Metropolis building is about as high as you can buy in Auckland right now.The hotel and apartment block has 37 floors, or 38 if you count the top penthouse's two levels. The top two floors are currently taken - former Chase Corporation head Peter Francis owns level 36, and the two-storey apartment on levels 37 and 38 are owned by company director Charles Shrimpton. So who might buy the new corner penthouse on level 35?
"We've had people flying up from Christchurch and Wellington looking at it for their Auckland crash pad," says agent Damian Piggin.
Well, I guess if you have the $2 million it will probably take to buy it at auction on September 21 then you can probably afford for it to be simply that - a place in Auckland to crash amid your busy schedule.
