The Traders was set up by past Auckland Property Investors Association (APIA) chief executive Ashley Church and other former APIA board members when last year’s APIA board elections culminated in Church’s resignation.
APIA president Sue Tierney said in a recent association newsletter that the board was “concerned about use of the APIA database” by the Traders and “we have now issued legal proceedings to bring this matter to a conclusion”. Church maintains the Traders did not use the APIA membership database as a source of email addresses.
In a subsequent newsletter this week, Tierney said that for members who wished to hear details regarding litigation with the Traders, a communications meeting would be held – the date and location of which is to be confirmed at the association meeting on 12 February.
Church, who remains an APIA member, has notified board members of his intention to attend the meeting and “make [his] presence known” at the meeting “if there is any further distortion of facts, misrepresentation of characters, or lying in order to present the board members responsible in a more positive light”.
Tierney, however, does not foresee that the meeting will be eventful, saying she would be surprised if more than 10 people attended. She says she’s had only two queries from members about the dispute, and wanted to pre-empt “Chinese whispers”.
