There’s no substitute for hard work, according to the Palmerston North-based property investor.
“You can get all the good advice in the world but, ultimately, it’s you – the individual – who needs to put in the elbow grease to secure your financial future.”
For Heather, that means treating property investment like it’s her second job: researching, renovating, gathering information and analysing for up to 20 hours each week.
But, like most people with a passion, she enjoys nearly every aspect of building her portfolio – and has done since she first hit upon property investment in her early 20s.
As NZ Property Investor magazine reports in the current issue, all Heather’s hard work and passion have paid off.
She now has a 13 property portfolio which generates 17 income streams and is getting ever-closer to her goal of working full-time at property investment.
Heather’s top seven investment tips are:
1. Turn off the TV.
2. Identify new infrastructure and developments which will drive up values in areas of interest.
3. Have a go at doing your own renovations.
4. Build a “dream team” of go-to professionals.
5. Pay your tradies on time.
6. Diversify your portfolio in some way.
7. Have a plan and educate yourself.
