David Green joins that bank as an independent non-executive director June 7.
Green worked for the ANZ Group for 14 years, most recently as chief executive in Singapore and Head of South East Asia, India and the Middle East.
He was also chairman of the Institute of Finance Professionals New Zealand, and was an executive board member of the New Zealand China Council.
Westpac NZ Board chair Pip Greenwood said Green would bring a wealth of skills and expertise to the board, and she noted he had brought a focus on risk management to all his executive banking roles.
Westpac NZ has been criticised for its risk management in a series of comments dating back to March last year.
In the latest development on that front, a report by Deloitte said Westpac had shown considerable improvement, but more needed to be done, and Westpac management agreed. The RBNZ noted the bank was financially sound.
Green's appointment comes after Mary Quin retired in May after six years on the board.
