ACT Leader Hon Richard Prebble confirmed that the ACT caucus took a superannuation policy approach to the party board meeting today.
The board endorsed the caucus position and has given authority for caucus to release the policy position.
"The ACT party welcomes the government’s initiative in acknowledging that the future sustainability of superannuation is a very important issue.
"Sustainable superannuation is a core ACT position and one of the motivations for founding the party.
"I will be writing to Dr Cullen to inform him of the party’s position and will be calling a press conference later in the week to formally set out ACT’s position and the reasons for it.
"ACT does appreciate that in an MMP parliament ACT’s support may turn out to be crucial for the successful passing of any superannuation policy," said Hon Richard Prebble.
ACT's position on superannuation would be released later this week, after Finance Minister Michael Cullen had been informed of it.
Mr Prebble said he welcomed Dr Cullen's plan for a partial pre-funding of baby boomers, because there was a real problem.
ACT had questioned the figures and the proposal, but saw pensions as a way of emphasising the party's vision that all New Zealanders should own a share of the country.
It appreciated that its support could be crucial for passing any superannuation policy through Parliament.
