FMA announces further leadership appointments; Auckland location

The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) has announced three further appointments to its strategic leadership team under chief executive Sean Hughes, and announced its new Auckland premises.

Wednesday, August 10th 2011, 12:22PM

The new leadership team appointments are Diane Maxwell, head of stakeholder management, Duncan Smith, head of business performance and Nick Williams, acting head of enforcement.

Maxwell is the current head of brand and corporate affairs at BNZ and in her new role at the FMA will provide strategic and operational management of the FMA's wide-ranging communications activities, including building relationships with market participants and stakeholders in Government, the financial sector, co-regulators in New Zealand and abroad, the media and public.

Smith is currently the chief operating officer at Minter Ellison Rudd Watts and in his FMA role will work with fellow leadership team members to ensure the FMA has the organisational performance tools and capability to function effectively and meet strategic goals. He will oversee human resources, finance, IT and shares administrative services.

Williams is an experienced litigation lawyer seconded from Meredith Connell who has already worked on a number of the FMA's court cases, including those related to failed finance companies.

His role will be to oversee the management and development of the FMA's enforcement services and to lead its team of forensic accountants, investigators and litigation lawyers.

"The board and I are delighted that Diane, Duncan and Nick have joined the FMA team," said Hughes.

He said the appointments confirmed the FMA was putting in place a highly skilled leadership team with considerable depth of experience and expertise and that an executive recruitment search was ongoing for two remaining roles, that of head of enforcement and head of market intelligence.

The FMA also announced it has taken a seven-year lease of Level 5, East Building, 52-70 Galway Street, Britomart, which has the capacity for more than 50 staff.
