Blackburn has a strong banking background and has also worked as a journalist and diplomat. She spent 15 years in investment banking in New York and London, returning to New Zealand in the mid-90s to take a role at one of the major local banks leading its capital markets activities.
Fidelity Life chairman Ian Braddock said: "Blackburn has extensive financial services and corporate governance experience, making her an excellent addition to the boardroom.
Over the last decade she has focused on a portfolio of directorships. They have included businesses in the private, not for profit and central and local government sectors across financial services, infrastructure and creative industries.
Fidelity Life recently released its 2011 annual report, announcing a record net profit of $18.3 million after tax for the year ended 30 June.
