Kelvin Syms, who founded and ran the Northplan Financial Planning business, has died. He was 67.
Syms died at Mercy Hospice on Thursday after a battle with cancer.
Northplan grew to be one of the larger financial planning firms before the GFC and finance company sector meltdown, with offices mainly in the North Island and more than 10,000 clients.
Syms was a big supporter of Waltus, syndicated property funds and also finance companies.
ASX-listed company MFS bought Northplan in 2006 for $52 million and changed its name to Vestar. The company was later sold to Gould Weatlh Management.
