Financial Markets Authority director of external communications and investor capability Paul Gregory is taking a new role with Pie Funds after two years with the regulator.
He will be head of investments at the fund manager.
Pie Funds said Gregory would bring considerable experience and a "different perspective on many things".
His initial focus would be on investment oversight and ESG.
"He will also work on investor education and communication as he has been a regular commentator for the FMA," Pie Funds said.
A spokesman for FMA said: "We wish Paul well and thank him for his contribution to the FMA."
