In line with the criteria set by the trust deed, an appointments panel of Bruce Cortesi (previous PAA board chair) and Karen Tatterson (previous PAA board member) was set up to recommend Slater’s replacement.
The appointments’ panel recommended Darrin Franks as the new independent trustee and chairperson. The trustees confirmed this appointment.
Franks is well known to many financial advisers from his time in executive roles across sales and marketing in the New Zealand life insurance industry.
He was a previous independent board member of the PAA, and is currently general manager marketing, strategy and development at Instance Finance.
The trust was set up in 2018 to manage the proceeds from the sale of a series of holiday homes after the wind up of the Professional Advisers Association NZ.
The broad purpose of the trust is to support a range of organisations, individuals and charities with grants towards promoting and facilitating the education of financial advisers and the benefits of financial advice for New Zealanders.
