The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is looking for feedback as it begins consultation on its review of the Code for Financial Advertising.
The ASA sets the standards (the Codes) for responsible advertising in New Zealand. The Codes cover truthful presentation and matters of social responsibility and sets the standards for all ads in all media.
In 2020, the ASA received complaints about 591 advertisements, 12 of which related to financial advertising. Of those 12, three were investigated and one was upheld/settled.
The Codes Committee work plan for 2021 includes a routine review of the standards for the advertising of financial products and services. This code review will ensure these standards are fit for purpose for 2021 and beyond.
Submissions are due by June 30 and should be sent to Claire Hofer at claire.hofer@asa.co.nz.
