Strategi Group appoints head of AML/CFT

Derek Chen has joined Strategi Group full-time as the head of AML/CFT.

Chen has merged his business, APlus Compliance, into Strategi Compliance, significantly enhancing its ability to assist clients.

Through this merger Chen also becomes a shareholder and director of both Strategi and Strategi Compliance.

Chen brings a wealth of experience in compliance, finance, and law to Strategi. He will lead its AML/CFT division within Strategi Compliance and contribute to various compliance consulting projects. This strategic integration underscores Strategi Group’s commitment to strengthening its expertise and leadership in the compliance and financial services sector.

Chen’s journey in financial services compliance began in 2015 as a compliance officer at Strategi. He gained extensive experience with finance sector regulations, customising compliance programmes, delivering compliance reports, and liaising with regulatory bodies like the DIA and FMA. His expertise in AML/CFT frameworks, systematic reviews, and over 200 AML/CFT audits has established him as a recognised expert in the field.

In 2019, he founded APlus Compliance, a consulting firm specialising in financial services compliance. As managing director, he provided AML/CFT consulting and training, conducted financial service licence applications, and offered business advisory services. This entrepreneurial venture positioned APlus Compliance as a trusted name in the industry.

In 2022, Chen founded Lifelong Wealth, where he served as the principal financial adviser, providing advice on KiwiSaver and investment products, further showcasing his expertise in personal finance and investment strategies.
