Craig Tyson joins the ACC Investment Fund in a new role managing Australian REITs.
Tyson in the newly created position of Portfolio Manager, Australian Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs). He has almost 30 years’ experience in property investment and fund management, most recently as Head of Australasian Listed Property at ANZ Securities.
Listed property stocks are a good fit for ACC’s Investment Fund because they are interest-rate sensitive, long-duration assets that can help hedge ACC’s outstanding claims liability (OCL - the expected life-time costs of historical accidents). Changes in bond yields are a key driver of the OCL and they are also a key driver of the returns from listed property stocks.
The Fund has delivered average annual returns of more than 9% since inception in 1992, helping meet the costs of Aotearoa New Zealand’s no-fault accident insurance scheme.
Tyson represented ANZ Securities on the NZ Corporate Governance Forum, which promotes global best practice governance in New Zealand companies, and was a member of ANZ’s Responsible Investment Forum. His previous experience includes Forsyth Barr in Auckland and Fuji Investment Management in London.
