Mr Verhaart joins Wellington-based GMI from AMP Capital, where he led the New Zealand Multi-Asset Group for almost five years, heading the group’s strategic and dynamic asset allocation, and multi-manager investment solutions for New Zealand investors. Prior to his role with AMP, Mr Verhaart was general manager of AXA Global Investors and head of investment consulting with Mercer.
GMI chief investment officer Simon O’Grady said Mr Verhaart was a key addition to GMI’s investment management team.
“Peter’s a highly respected member of the investment community, and GMI and our clients are fortunate to have a leader of his calibre and experience onboard.”
GMI’s growth in wholesale, trust, charity, family office and iwi investment sectors had led to the creation of the key role.
“Peter will have overall responsibility for delivering a market-leading implemented investment service. The role is directed at the growing demand for truly global total risk and return solutions that are both transparent and cost-effective for New Zealand investors.”
Mr Verhaart, who starts in his new role on May 2, said he was excited to join the thriving Kiwi-owned fund manager.
“I'm looking forward to getting to know GMI's clients and helping them to achieve their investment goals through utilising the investment expertise of the GMI team.”
