Nikko appoints general counsel from FMA

Nikko Asset Management has appointed a new general counsel and company secretary.

Wednesday, February 27th 2019, 8:13PM

Simon Haines joins the company after 16 years as a specialist in regulatory and commercial law.

This includes almost five years at the Financial Markets Authority, as manager of disclosure and before that senior solicitor regulatory policy.

Haines has also held positions at Russell McVeagh, Lowndes Associates and Telecom NZ. He has an LLB from Auckland University and a BA (Hons) from the University of London.

Nikko managing director George Carter said he was delighted to have someone of Haines’ calibre join the firm.

“As we continue to expand our retail offering and build on our reputation for excellence in asset management, Simon’s wealth of experience, both as an in-house lawyer and in regulatory matters is a welcome addition to our leadership team."

Haines said he looked forward to helping Nikko build on its reputation.

“This is a particularly exciting time to be joining Nikko AM NZ.  The company is rolling out a leading edge roboadvice platform and is breaking out into the KiwiSaver space.  On top of this, the legal and regulatory landscape is changing at a frantic pace, with a particular focus on ensuring that the customer remains front and centre at all times,"

Haines is due to start at Nikko's Auckland office in mid-March.
