Vance Arkinstall
The 73-year-old was at the helm of the association, the precursor to the Financial Services Council, for 10 years until 2010. He was a key voice in the debate around the implementation of the first stage of regulation, including adviser registration and anti-fraud measures.
The former head of Norwich Union stepped down from the role as he prepared to fight charges over the failure of Dominion Finance Group.
He was a director of the finance company, which was placed in receivership in 2008 owing $176.9 million.
He was later found guilty and served a sentence of home detention.
Arkinstall was remembered by his family as someone who brought laughter and love into their lives.
